Monday 9-14-09 Speed/Velocity definitions and Problems

2. Solve for Distance
Find the distance a car traveled if it drove for 10 s and was traveling at a speed of 20 m/s

  1. The first thing we did was log in to the computers. We reviewed the topics of velocity, distance, and time. Today, we had to define and find how to calculate
    1) Average velocity
    2) Instantaneous velocity, and
    3) Acceleration.
    Then, we have to pare the definitions with the equations that were given.
    We talked about the difference between concepts and units. Units always go with numbers. Concepts are by themselves. The equations have concepts in them, but units replace the concepts when plugging into the equation.

  2. Average Velocity: The distance traveled in an elapsed period of time. V=d/t
    Instantaneous Velocity: The velocity of an object at an instance. V=d/t
    Acceleration: The rate of change of an objects velocity. a=v/t

  3. 1. Average velocity: Is displacement over total time v=d/t

    2. Instantaneous velocity: The velocity of an object at an instant v=d/t

    3. Acceleration: Is the rate of change of velocity as a function of time v=a*t

  4. 1) Average velocity= displacement over total time
    V=d/t
    2)Instantaneous velocity= velocity of an object at a instant
    V=d/t
    3)Acceleration= is the change in velocity over time
    V=axt

  5. The average velocity is the distance traveled in a certain period of time. v=d/t.
    instantaneous velocity= the velocity of an object at an instance.
    v=(alt)
    Acceleration= The rate of change of an object of an objects velocity a=v/t

    2) instantaneous velocity= velocity of an object at A instant
    v=d/t
    3) acceleration= the change in velocity over time
    v=a x t

  7. 1) Solve for Velocity: Find the average velocity of a car that traveled 300 m in 60 s.
    2) Solve for time: Find the time it took for a car to travel 500 m at an average speed of 20 m/s.
    3) Solve for Distance: Find the distance traveled by a car going at an average speed of 15 m/s for 40 s.
    4) Solve for velocity: Find the average velocity of a car that traveled 600 m in 90 s.
    5) Solve for time: Find the time it took for a car to travel 400 m at an average speed of 20 m/s.

  8. 1. Average velocity- displacement over total time.
    v=d/t

    2. Instantaneous velocity-limit of an average velocity, as the time interval gets smaller and smaller.
    v=d/t

    3. Acceleration- the rate of change of velocity asa function of time.
    v=a*t

  9. Average Velocity is path distance divided by time interval.

    Equation: average speed=total distance covered/ time interval

    Instantaneous Velocity: Speed at any instant.

    Equation:

    Acceleration:

    Average speed:Path distance by the time interval.......V=d/t
    Instantaneous. Velocity/Speed:Speed at any instance ......
    Acceleration:Rate at which an objects velocity changes with time the change in velocity may be in magnitude (speed),direction,or both.... V-a/t

    A displacement over total time.
    2. Instantaneous velocity/speed: v=at
    The particular instant of time
    3. Acceleration: v=at
    The change in velocity over time

  15. I had to do two anonymous posts because the blog messed me up by deleting my information.
